As Andrea confirmed, the first response at the top of this thread has the answer about the reply box at the top of a thread. One simply clicks on the three dots "..." in the reply box. This adds the text from the original thread underneath a blank line in the reply box with the newest part of the thread at the top. The blank line is the place you are to type your reply. All of the text in the reply box will be sent as your reply. Granted, the original thread is still displayed above the reply box, but that can be ignored.
